Satellite Symposia & Workshops

Crystal Photonics and SurgicEye Satellite Workshop

Date: Wednesday 9th October 2019
Time: 12:45 – 13:15
Location: Penn Room
Description: Radioguided surgery as enabled minimally invasive surgical approaches like the sentinel lymph node biopsy for various solid tumors. Recent portable SPECT systems enable to bring this method further by simplifying the workflow and enabling intraoperative navigation and control of resection. Different protocols and examples are shown for breast, head and neck cancers and melanoma, as well as tracer-guided surgery like PSMA-guided surgery for prostate cancer or radioguided approaches for NETs.

Description:
The use of a RFID tag for lesion localization : impact on breast surgery procedures
Dr Anneriet E. Dassen, Enschede/Netherlands
The use of a RFID tag for breast lesion localization and identification for breast surgery is a relatively new technique. This talk will describe the considerations leading to the replacement of the traditional wire localization with a RFID technology (LOCalizer). It will present the initial results from the use of this RFID technology in clinical practice based on 50 procedures and describe the impact on surgical planning and procedures.
